If you have a tanning bed at home and are ready to place an order for some new lamps, there are a few things you may want to check first:
Tanning lamps come in a few different sizes. Check on the writing of the bulb to see whether it is an F59, F71, F73, or F79. These are the most common lamps lengths there are. After that, you want to make sure of your lamp wattage. Standard tanning lamp wattages are: 80 Watts, 100 Watts, 140 Watts and 160 Watts.
After you have this information from the writing on the lamps, you then want to check whether they are bi-pin or RDC.
Bi-Pin lamps have two pins on the ends of the lamps and they twist in when putting them into the lamp holders.
RDC lamps have a black cap at the end of the lamps and one side of the lamp pushes into the spring loaded lamp holder.
If your tanning bed lamps do not have this writing on them, you can also check the manual of the tanning bed or the sticker usually found on the canopy or top of the tanning bed. This sticker usually has the tanning times and lamps that were certified for that bed.RDC lamps have a black cap at the end of the lamps and one side of the lamp pushes into the spring loaded lamp holder.
Lamp Life
Most 100 watt tanning lamps have a life of about 1000 hours. So, if you have a tanning bed that is a 20 minute session, you would have about 3000 sessions before you needed to change your lamps.
Most 160 watt reflector lamps have a life of about 800 hours.
Lamp life may vary depending on the manufacturer, brand, and wattage. Always check to make sure what the lamp life is before you buy.
Now that you know what you need, you should be able to shop for your tanning lamps.
